Seamless Aluminium Pipe
What is a Seamless Aluminium Pipe?
Seamless Aluminium Pipe is produced from solid extruded or pierced billet without any welded seam, most commonly in the 6061 (Al-Mg-Si) and 6063 alloys, with 5xxx-series marine alloys available for specific duties. At one third the density of steel, aluminium pipe delivers the lightest practical solution for structural, fluid and thermal-transfer systems.
Aluminium's natural oxide film gives excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance without coatings, while its thermal conductivity of roughly 167 W/m·K makes it a natural fit for heat exchangers, condensers and cooling circuits. Extruded seamless tube can also be produced in shapes (square, rectangular, oval) impossible with welded formats.
Supplied to ASTM B241 (pipe) and B210 (tube), typically in T6 temper, seamless aluminium pipe serves air-conditioning, irrigation, compressed-air, marine and transport systems where weight, conductivity and corrosion-free service are priorities.

Why Aluminium Replaces Steel in Weight-Sensitive Systems
At 2.70 g/cm³, aluminium weighs barely a third of steel for the same volume, and a well-chosen alloy recovers much of the strength difference: 6061-T6 delivers about 310 MPa tensile — beyond many structural steels — while 5083 provides marine-grade strength without any heat treatment. The natural aluminium-oxide film re-passivates instantly when damaged, so unpainted tube survives decades of atmospheric and many chemical exposures.
Two further properties drive specification. Thermal and electrical conductivity make aluminium tube the default for heat exchangers, condensers, bus tubes and HVAC coils; and the extrusion route lets us produce custom profiles and multi-void sections that steel cannot economically match. Our seamless aluminium pipe and tube is extruded and drawn, supplied in tempers from annealed through T6, with alloy and temper certification to EN 573/ASTM B210/B241 on every shipment.
Manufacturing Process
Our seamless production route for Seamless Aluminium Pipe follows these documented stages:
- Log Heating & Extrusion: Cast homogenized logs are heated to about 420-500 °C and extruded through a porthole or mandrel die to form seamless hollows.
- Cold Drawing (where required): Drawn variants achieve tighter tolerances and smaller diameters than as-extruded tube.
- Solution Heat Treatment & Aging: Heat-treatable alloys (6xxx series) are solution-treated, water-quenched and artificially aged to T6 temper; non-heat-treatable alloys are annealed or strain-hardened to the ordered temper.
- Finishing: Tubes may be anodized, powder-coated or left mill-finish according to application.
- Testing: Dimensional, hardness and mechanical verification plus alloy/temper certification complete the release procedure.
Surface Finish Options
- Mill Finish: Economical standard for industrial tube.
- Anodized: Class 1/Class 2 oxide layers for architectural and marine protection.
- Powder Coated: Colour-stable protective coating on request.
- Polished / Brushed: Decorative and lighting applications.

Common Industrial Applications
Because of its characteristic property profile, Seamless Aluminium Pipe is specified in the following industries and services:
- HVAC & Refrigeration: Condenser, evaporator and coolant piping exploiting aluminium's thermal conductivity and light weight.
- Compressed-Air & Pneumatic Systems: Lightweight, corrosion-free distribution piping in plants and vehicles.
- Marine & Dock Structures: Railing, gangway and utility piping in 5xxx-series alloys for salt-splash service.
- Automotive & Rail: Fuel, coolant and structural lines where mass reduction improves efficiency.
- Irrigation & Water Systems: Light, quick-coupled mainlines for agricultural and construction use.
- Heat-Exchanger Manufacturing: Shell-and-tube and air-cooled exchanger bundles with high conductance.
Quality Assurance, Testing and Documentation
Every length of Seamless Aluminium Pipe passes through a documented quality-control chain before dispatch:
- Material Certification: EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates are issued for every heat; 3.2 certification with third-party witness (TUV, SGS, BV) is available on request.
- Chemical & Mechanical Testing: Heat-level chemical analysis plus tensile, hardness and, where applicable, flattening, flaring and reverse-flattening tests per the governing standard.
- Non-Destructive Examination: 100 % eddy-current or ultrasonic testing and hydrostatic or pneumatic pressure testing in line with the standard's supplementary requirements.
- Dimensional & Visual Inspection: Full OD, wall thickness, ovality and length verification with visual surface inspection after pickling or finishing.
- Traceability & Marking: Heat numbers stenciled or banded on every length, maintaining complete melt-to-pipe traceability.
Export and Packaging
Pipes are bundled with steel strapping and fitted with plastic or steel end caps, then packed in seaworthy wooden cases or crates and secured in containers for long-distance ocean freight. Standard export documentation — commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, mill test certificates and, where required, third-party inspection reports — accompanies every shipment. Container-load and bulk project orders receive priority production slots and consolidated shipping documentation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Which aluminium alloy should be specified for piping?
A: 6061-T6 is the default structural/pressure choice; 6063 for architectural and general low-pressure lines; 5083 or 5052 for marine and cryogenic service. We help match alloy to duty, media and welding plan.
Q2. Is aluminium pipe suitable for steam service?
A: No — aluminium loses strength above about 200 °C and is not used for steam pressure piping. It excels below roughly 150 °C in air, water and most neutral media.
Q3. How is aluminium pipe joined?
A: TIG/MIG welding with matching filler (e.g., ER4043/ER5356), mechanically grooved couplings, or compression fittings. Anodizing or painting adds abrasion protection where needed.
Q4. Can custom profiles be produced?
A: Yes — seamless extrusion allows square, rectangular, oval and custom cross-sections with controlled wall thickness, ideal for heat-exchanger and structural designs.
